SkiS'Cool

Ski S'Cool is a learn to cross country ski program designed for Whitehorse primary students (Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2) brought to you by the Whitehorse Nordic Center. This season Ski S'cool will be offered December through to March. Each class will receive three lessons (weather and snow dependent) at the Whitehorse Nordic Center. All classes will be led by two or three instructors so that we can break into smaller groups. Our certified instructors will convey the joy of skiing to students using games and fun-focused lesson plans.

Skills taught will be basics such as rising and falling on skis, diagonal stride, uphill herringbone, snowplow stop and turn. Due to the size and make-up of the grades, each class is requested to have a teacher and at least one helper on hand to assist the instructors as needed.

Registration for the Ski S'Cool is done through the Whitehorse schools. The $20 fee per student includes ski equipment and day pass.

Transportation to and from Whitehorse Nordic Center is the responsibility of the school. Students should be dropped off at the Ski S'Cool trailer ( Ski stadium adjacent to the Canada Games Centre parking lot).

A class may also be canceled due to poor ski conditions. If we feel it is not safe for young skiers to be on our trails, we will cancel the class and re-schedule as conditions permit.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Our temperature cutoff for instructing is -20ºC (schools can use own discretion). If a class is canceled due to cold weather, we will endeavor to re-schedule.
